Skill Progression

Early Game (Levels 1-13, Act 1 Normal):

Max Fire Blast first for strong direct damage.

Add 1 point to Claw Mastery (Den of Evil).

Max Burst of Speed (BoS) for mobility and trap-laying speed.

Unlock and invest in Wake of Fire at level 12.

Mid Game (to Level 26, End of Normal): Continue maxing Wake of Fire with synergies into Fire Blast. Use BoS constantly.

Nightmare Transition (Level 26+): Respec around Act 4 Nightmare into Lightning traps: Max Lightning Sentry, Death Sentry (corpse explosion for clear), and synergies like Charged Bolt Sentry and Shock Web. Keep Burst of Speed and add points to Fade or Mind Blast for crowd control. By level 75, you'll have a solid trap-laying foundation ready for full endgame respec.

Stat Allocation

Strength: Enough for gear (around 48-70 early for Spirit bases).

Dexterity: Minimal unless using claws/shields for block.

Energy: Only early levels if mana is tight; gear covers it later.

Vitality: Dump everything else for a healthy life pool.

Prioritize Vitality after initial Energy needs. Use the Act 5 quest rewards wisely for sockets.

Gear Recommendations (Budget Runewords)

Early: Leaf Short Staff (+fire skills), Stealth armor (FRW, FHR), Lore helm.

Mid: Dual Spirit (sword + shield) for massive +skills, FCR, and mana. Ancient's Pledge shield, Nadir or gemmed helm.

Look for +skills, Faster Cast Rate (FCR), resistances, and Magic Find. Shop for a Teleport staff from Ormus. Farm Countess for runes. Key breakpoints: 63% FCR for smooth trap casting.

Mercenary

Act 2 Desert Merc (Holy Freeze or Might) with a pike. Equip him with Insight for mana regen once available, or basic polearms/armor early. He tanks and helps with physical immunes.

Playstyle & Tips

Lay Wake of Fire traps ahead as you run—set-and-forget AoE clears packs efficiently. Use Fire Blast on bosses and elites. Keep Burst of Speed active for fast movement. Teleport staff helps with mobility. Focus on elites for exp; farm Countess, Andariel, and cows. In Nightmare/Hell, Death Sentry's corpse explosion handles immunes beautifully when combined with Lightning traps.

Strengths: Strong early clear, safe ranged play, excellent transition to endgame, low gear requirements.

Weaknesses: Fire immunes in later acts (use merc or respec timing), trap placement needs practice in tight spaces.

By level 75 with one respec used, your Assassin is primed for endgame Lightning Trapsin, Phoenix Strike, or other variants. The buy D2R Ladder Runewords build excels at solo ladder progression and can farm key items like Spirits and runes quickly.
