If you have fond memories of soaring through the skies and clashing in massive faction wars in the original AION, it is time to dust off your wings. NCSoft officially dropped the news during Summer Game Fest 2026 that AION 2 is locked in for a global launch window this September 2026. After kicking things off in South Korea and Taiwan in late 2025, the high-flying MMORPG is finally making its way to international audiences.

While we do not have an exact calendar day just yet, the Steam store page is already live, meaning you can jump in and wishlist the game right now to stay updated.

Where and How We Are Playing

For the global launch, AION 2 is keeping things focused. At launch, the game will be exclusive to PC, available through both Steam and NCSoft’s own Purple client.

The launch is going to be a massive rollout, with servers going live simultaneously across North America, South America, Europe, and Asia. To make sure everyone feels at home, NCSoft is including full localization support for 10 different languages.

Aerial Combat and What to Expect at Launch

What made the original game stand out was its relationship with flight, and AION 2 is doubling down on that concept. Instead of just using wings to travel from point A to point B, the game features a fully realized aerial combat system. When you are fighting in the air, you will have to actively manage your momentum, positioning, and altitude mid-fight, adding a completely different layer of strategy compared to traditional ground-based MMOs.

You will be able to tackle this world with eight distinct playable classes, all designed to hold their own whether you prefer playing solo or grouping up with friends. On the PvE side, the launch lineup includes solo dungeons, 4-player cooperative instances, and massive 8-player raids.

If you are more into PvP, there is plenty to look forward to. The game is bringing back the iconic, faction-based Abyss, alongside cross-server realm-vs-realm (RvR) battlefields and structured arenas for smaller-scale competitive fights. Outside of combat, there is a deep cosmetic "Style Shop" where players can customize their characters and directly share or download appearance templates with the community.

A Fairer Approach to Monetization

One of the biggest questions for any modern MMORPG is how it handles the cash shop, especially when transitioning from domestic Asian markets to the West. Taking player feedback from the Korean release into account, the developers used a recent video digest to outline a much friendlier Western business model.

The global version of AION 2 will focus primarily on a cosmetics-only cash shop where you can buy custom wings, character skins, and pets. There will be a standard free/premium Battle Pass tracker, and a single, optional $15 monthly subscription. This optional sub is designed for hardcore players, as it grants full access to the player-driven economy.
